LITERACY AND LIVELIHOODS
Learning is an ongoing process, and through its Literacy & Livelihoods imitative, HDB provides a platform to children and interested youth to upskill for better career prospects and livelihood opportunities.
Youth Training & Development
- HDB's employment-linked skills training and development program are designed to address the skill gap that exist between the industry and the academic curricula. Our training programs strive to make the trainee employment-ready and confident individuals with renewed self-esteem.
- Our programs are more hands-on and have a holistic-approach, with strong focus on skills and career mapping prior to enrolment, pre & post placement support, regular mentoring, industry visits and active parent-trainer engagement during the course duration.
- HDB's training partners impart skills training on vocations related to industries such as healthcare, retail, financial services, food & beverages, beauty & wellness among others. Over 25000 trained individuals have been linked to aspirational job roles while others are on their journey to become successful micro entrepreneurs.
Quality Education
- HDB supports programs that offer quality education to students attending low-income day schools as well as night schools. HDB provides much-needed infrastructure support to night schools to provide an equal access to quality learning environment for night school goers, often school dropouts or older adults wanting to complete the formal education.
- HDB supports community learning centers that provide not just academic support, but also instil the spark of curiosity in children, particularly by enhancing the STEM and creative quotient from a tender age. Since 2018, 10 such community centers have been supported and over a thousand children have benefitted from this program.
Food for Education
- Hunger and performance is classroom is inter-related, and to eliminate classroom hunger, HDB supports India's mid-day meal program that serves hot and nutritious meals to over 3 million children a day.
- Since 2018, HDB has been sponsoring meals for 10000 children across 160 schools in Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh. Research suggest that with regular meals, teachers have reported an improvement in daily attendance, improved attention span and active participation in school activities.
- To be able to serve more children, HDB has made considerable investments in upgrading kitchens and ramping up the supply chain.
